Every QB in football was available including Tom Brady.Giants found a way to get their guy.
How do you know unless you asked or made an offer?
I didn't answer you because the question shows no understanding of the process.
If I wanted a player, or a position, I'd start preparing myself 1-2 years in advance to put myself in a position to get it done.
I wouldn't be a victim and I wouldn't kill myself long term to try and make the playoffs this year like we do and did.
I'm moving this discussion to its own thread and the above bolded is I guess (finally!) your resopnse from the other thread to the onging question being asked of you.
First off, and considering you smack down eveyone else, It'd be lovely if you could make a point without insulting the intellilgence of other who have the audacity to question your "brilliance". I "understand the process" just fine. I just apply the process with objectivity and fact rather then in a theoretical vaccum as you like to. But lets break down your above analysis shall we:
Every QB in football was available including Tom Brady.
This is a total cop out answer and changes your "position" compeltely. Your ORIGINAL position was about prototype franchise QBs and how to get one. AND how the Jets have "blown it" wiht so many and then "screwed up" by thinking Sanchez WAS a franchise QB because he isnt because hes not "prototype" (height anyway). I think that accurately sums up your position...yes? Well, using Tom Brady as an example is ridiculous considering Belly had to be talked into to TAKING him in the 6TH round over Tom Rattay. AND that Brady is truly a once in a generation "luck out". The last time a QB taken that late was that great was Joe MOntana. Almost every other star QB was a first rounder or high second rounder. So not only is your above statement off point, it is shallow, irrelevant and frankly surprisingly beneath you.
Giants found a way to get their guy.
For a guy who always preaches "value" it truly shocks me that you keep bringing this one up. Not to mention the repeating of your fantasy "when there is a will there is a way" theory. BL, the Giants "got their guy" because ALL the stars aligned for them. They had a down year and a top 5 pick. There were 3 stud QBs in that draft. Eli made it CLEAR he was not going to play in SD. So the Giants gave up a BOATLOAD to "get their guy". Two issues here. 1) Yes, their guy was the QB when they won A super bowl. But lets be frank, HE didnt win that SB...the D and David Tyree did. But I conceed that he won one with them. But since then he has been terribly erratic and they havent been close to repeating. In fact they have collapsed twice and he has been a int machine 2) Considering Big Ben has TWO rings and considering Rivers has played at an all pro level, did the Giants get VALUE by giving up all they did for Eli? Maybe they win 3 or 4 bowls with Big ben AND the extra draft picks? The Giants getting Eli was a VERY unique situation and one the Jets (and almost every other team) have NEVER been fortunate enough to be in.
How do you know unless you asked or made an offer?
How do YOU know they didnt or haven't???? Answer: you dont. But you can make all the offers you want...unless the other team ACCEPTS the offer it doesnt do much (nor will you likely ever hear about it).
I didn't answer you because the question shows no understanding of the process.
No, you didnt answer because you have no answer. And then you "pulled a Bit" by avoiding and/or trying to change or manipulate the subject.
If I wanted a player, or a position, I'd start preparing myself 1-2 years in advance to put myself in a position to get it done.
Oh really???? And how exactly would you do that to get a franchise QB...throw a season? Should we go 1-15 next year on purpose so we can get Andrew Luck? I mean please, that is a ridiculous statement. Prototype franchise QBs (and THAT is the subject here!) go top 1-5 EVERY time. And RARELY will a team drafting there pass on the chance to take one. Maybe someone will slide to 10 every now and then. Once every 20 or 30 years someone will slide to the late 20s (Marino, Rogers). After that it is a total crap shoot and the number of bust QBs taken AFTER the first round is VERY high. UNless names like Beck, Batch, Brohm, King, Carter and Tuiassaoppo (and Clemens) float your boat! My guess is its around 90%...and more like 98% after that. True franchise QBs come from rd 1 wiht very few exceptions. So stop with your "prpearing in advance" crap. The KNicks "prepared" for 2 years to get Lebron...how'd that work out?
I wouldn't be a victim and I wouldn't kill myself long term to try and make the playoffs this year like we do and did
This sentence actually had me laughing out loud. Its senseless. How exactly did we "kill ourselves long term"? By giving up very little to draft a guy who they felt WAS a franchise QB (despite being 6'2" instead of your mandated 6'4" or taller)??? By trading for young talented players ike Cro, Holmes and Edwards on the cheap who needed a new start AND who may very well be here long term? The ONLY move that stinks of short term was LT. EVERY other move they have made recently has been about bringing in YOUNG proven vet guys. PLus, they made the AFCCG LAST season! They saw a window of opportnity to win the SUPER BOWL THIS YEAR (not just "make the playoffs) and loaded up to make a run. Wil it work? Probably not this year. BUt how about we see who is still on the team next year before we make silly claims about long term killings and victims.
And finally, since you ducked the question, I am going to address the MAIN point which is sanchez and your theory about protottypes and the Jets messing up.
First the latter. FACT is you havent named a guy the Jets passed on because you cannot. Plain and simple. How about a little history lesson for you. Lets not get crazy so lets say that not guaranteeing Archie that we'd take Peyton at #1 in 1997 was the last admitted "screw up" and go from there. We HAD a prototype QB from 1998 until 2001 in Vinny. We drafted Chad in 2000 in rd 1 (great value pick btw) and THOUGHT after a terrific pro bowl type 2002 that we had the next Joe Montana until injuries destroyed him. So drafting a QB in rd 1 from 1998 through 2002 probably made little sense. Carson Palmer fits your Profile" of a prototype QB in 2003. After Chads run in 2002, were we going to gvie up the farm to move up to #1? Was Cincy going to trade the chance to get him? Bzzzt. 2004 we already discussed but if your arguement is that we should have moved up to get Big Ben my answer is do you recall he went to Miami (OH)? Not exactly what one would call a sure thing AND we were getting Chad back from his wrist injury. 2005? Alex Smith went #1 overall...did you want us moving up for him? And Aaron Rogers, who might have made sense (if we even HAD a #1) due to Chad's shoulder injury in 2004, is a mere 6'2" so he doesnt exactly fit your profile of prototype. 2006? Young sucks, Leinart sucks and Cutler is on team #2 already. Not to mention we actually TRIED to move back up and get either Cutler or Leinart but (thank goodness) couldnt get them. Instead we got two all pro OLmen for an OL that was awful. NEXT...2007. Jemarcus Russell. Well...he was "prototype"...but lets move on. 2008? Ryan and Flacco. If we had the 3rd pick overall we take Ryan..no question. But we didnt and there was NO way ATlanta after the Vick fiasco was NOT going to take the new face of the franchise. Flacco? Legit argement can be made that we should have passed on Gholston, moved down and taken Flacco. BUT...he was from a 1-AA school which leads me to me accusation of you before:
based upon YOUR criteria, if you were the GM of the Bills in 1983, you take Ken Obrien over JIm Kelly right??? And before we cannonize Flacco can we acknowledge that Sanchez has as many playoff wins to date as Flacco. So now its on to 2009...
Clearly we needed a QB with Chad injury prone and Clem a disappointment. The Lions pre signed Stafford at #1 so hes gone. Sanchez is there at 5 and Mangini gives us a ridicuously cheap deal where we give 3 replacable players, a #2 pick and a #5 pick to get someone EVERYONE had as a blue chip prospect...despite his being 2 inches shorter then you like. Your counter at the time was we could have had Henne or Bomar and not given up anything. Despite the totally unprovable "if you swapped Henne and Sanchez" theory of yours I think we can move on from that now. So sanchez, who came from a big time program, who had a quick release, good mobility, well above average arm, played on a big stage, great feet, leadership, AND was known as a tireless worker....nah ah, no good, he's not 6'4". Sanchez, who as a rookie QBd his team into the AFCCG...nah ah, he's not prototype. Sanchez, who WON several games for us this year...na ah, too short. Sanchez, who has started 34 out of 35 games...nope, hes not durablee. I mean REALLY Larry???? Do you know how shallow and ridicuous that sounds. I have NO idea if Sanchez will win a SB for us or if he will elevate to an elite QB level. But I do know one thing: it WON'T be because hes two inches shorter then you want him to be! I also know that he has ALL the other tools to be a terrific NFL QB as he continues to mature...him being 24 and only in the NFL 2 years. But apparantly patience is reserved only for Giants QBs in your world since Maning pretty much sucked his first two years.
Now I know this is long and you will claim you are FAR too busy to read it all. Or you'll write some type of quippy cliche or insult about how I dont get it or am king of obvious...basically you'll avoid answering any of this. But BL is I have just taken the last 12 years and debunked your "the Jets blew it" theory over that time AND in the process explained why sanchez was the right guy at the right time and now we will have to wait and see how it plays out.
But Im a fair guy and for the most part (until recently when you kept avoiding like Bit does) I respect your knwledge and positions. So I am willing to listen to ANY retorts you have so long as they are factual rather then theoretical, stay on point, and do not contain any pompous insults to try and devert attention. So I'll ask it one more time, I'll even cap and bold it:
NAME ME THE PROTOTYPE QB THE JETS BLEW IT ON?????
Have a nice day....
