Brown And Smith Must Step It Up
Brown And Smith Must Step It Up
Written by Garry Cobb
I know Reggie Brown is focused on proving he can be a star in this league.
He's had to hear all off season that the Birds need more talent at their wide receiver position. He didn't do enough to disprove them on Saturday.
Too many times the ball came his way with a defender hanging all over him. He just doesn't seem to have that extra gear or the shake and bake ability to get free.
He was impressive at other times but he needs to be more consistent to be considered a top receiver.
The same can be said about tight end L.J. Smith who was outshined by back up tight end Brent Celek. Smith ran a seam route down the post with middle linebacker Stewart Bradley hanging all over him.
He's got to give the middle backer a better move outside in order to get open.
On another route against the blitz, Smith didn't get his head around soon enough to pick up the ball. The throw bounced off his hands incomplete.
Clearly Celek has gained a good deal of confidence from Donovan McNabb. McNabb must have hit him four or five times with throws downfield. Each time Celek either beat his man or found the opening in the zone.
Celek is my choice ! ...
