Thumbs up Kris Jenkins- NY Times- Kris is Charity spokesman

Jets’ Jenkins Is Charity Spokesman
By Greg Bishop

Tags: Jets, Kris Jenkins

In March, after the Jets traded for defensive tackle Kris Jenkins and signed him to a contract extension, we visited him near his off-season home in Washington.
The article that resulted is here.
The story detailed how Jenkins, a three-time Pro Bowler, worked with a nonprofit organization there called Life Pieces to Masterpieces. For African-American males ages 3 to 21 who live in public and low-income housing east of the Anacostia River, the program teaches life through art. The group has done remarkable work, and starting today, Jenkins will take on a more formal role, which he expressed interest in back in March.
After three years of volunteering at LPTM, Jenkins has signed on to be a national spokesperson for the organization. His commitment is for two years.
The program’s executive director, Mary Brown, said: “Each time Kris visits, he’s just one of the guys. He’ll roll up his sleeves and sit right in the middle of a circle of boys, joking, talking about life and answering questions. He has never wanted recognition or attention for what comes naturally to him.”
LPTM is hosting an event tonight to honor Jenkins and announce his role. The event is at Bus Boys and Poets, a local art spot, in Washington, and it features a silent auction and a performance by participants in the program.
The Jets start training camp in late July. Jenkins is expected to be the starting nose tackle.
