I have some concerns about Floyd, but there's no doubt his ceiling is sky high.

He is that prototypical BIG/FAST WR all teams are looking for nowadays, 6' 3"/220 and runs in the 4.4's, and he did produce big numbers at ND as well, without the benefit of an elite QB

So if the board fell this way, I would have to take Floyd who is an elite prospect.

I just think he's the best value at a position of need.

Can we vote to trade out to someone who wants Floyd badly????

Tough call. Barron is probably the safer pick and fills a big need. Floyd has huge upside would be a great addiiton for Sanchez with Holmes and Keller...but he is riskier and we are supposedly going to be more of a run first team. Gotta think about this one.

OY...just noticed Cox is there too! Come on...let me trade out!!!

Nah MSG, that makes it too easy, we have to assume no trade and make the pick at 16 if the board fell this way

... and hope we don't screw it up

MSG, even running teams need elite WR's nowadays, otherwise you'll see a steady diet of 8+ man fronts, and if they stack the box anyway, even if you have some lethal weapons outside, then you have to make them pay.

Floyd is not my ideal choice, but if the board fell this way I would probably take him.

I agree...but isnt that what we are paying Santonio Holmes and Dustin keller to be? The Pats had Wes Welker and a bunch of nobodies and has beens and chalked up 30+ a game! The Ginats found Victor Cruz on the scrap heap and Manningham in the 3rd. We need a #2 WR no dubt...Im juts not sure I want to use my #1 to find that #2!!! Not with a stud FS and stud DE staring at me...I at least need to think about it!!!

LOL!!

I know, its not easy!

BTW I wouldn't judge WR's by the Pats, they have a HOF QB who can make anyone look good, even a washed up scrub like Deon Branch. Victor Cruz makes me sick that we didn't find him.

But I see your point, MSG, and you might be right.

In the end I went with Cox. Based on need I'd have gone Cox after Barron and Floyd (so I am really going against my "draft for need but dont reach" theory here) but Floyd scares the hell out of me and while I love Barron for us, I see Cox having a bigger impact forming great bookend opposite Mo. If we were to land a ronnell lewis in rd two and pair Cox with Mo abd (hopefully an improved) Ellis, we could have one SERIOUS DLine and improve our pass rush dramatically which would make life a lot easier for whoever is in the secondary!

(Now watch Barron be Ed Reed and Floyd be Andre Johnson)

Its a good pick, MSG, some really smart draft guys have Cox pegged as a TOP 10 Pick.

He's a big-time player and a perfect fit at 34DE

The most encouraging thing about this mock draft, we were left with some really good options at 16

If the actual draft went this way, we would have a nice pool of prospects to choose from.

Me personally, I would be happy with Floyd, Cox or Barron, and if Rex loves one of the edge rushers, that would be even better, because I like our chances of him not being wrong.

MSG, check this out, both Rang and Brugler have Cox going #6 to the Rams in their updated mocks

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/mock

They have him going ahead of players like Blackmon, Claiborne and Ingram.

That was the best part about this.

It was a committee affair, so nothing really outlandish resulted. After some sensible picks, the Jets were left with a handful of nice options. Could be even more if Philly takes Barron -- leaving the Jets with Kuechly still on the table.

Gotta agree with MSG it wouldve been nice to have that trade out option as a choice.

Like some of the players still there such as Floyd, barron and Cox. but trading back gets u another pick and still a good shot at someone like Mcclellin or Hill. I think you can easliy find a DE for the 3/4 in the later rds .. Like cox alot but i also like this draft class. See solid talent throughout 4rds.

**ALERT**

I'm changing my vote to Fletcher Cox

That means one less vote for Floyd and one more vote for Cox

Subtract 1 Vote from Floyd's total

Add 1 Vote to Cox's total

For the record, I will not declare a winner until this poll automatically closes on Friday, 4-13 at 2:10 PM, so you have until then to submit your picks if you haven't already done so.

Taking the switch I made into account (see below), our current leader is Michael Floyd with 5 Votes, followed by Fletcher Cox and Mark Barron with 4 apiece.

He doesn't run with a wide open stride...chops his steps, so it slows down his field speed.

I went with Cox. In a nanosecond.

That was my other choice, Jetses.

It came down to Floyd and Cox for me, but I think the BIG WR is more of a need than a DE and I think Floyd can make a pretty big impact if the money and NYC doesn't spoil him, and that is a concern for me.

Also I agree that he doesn't play as fast as his forty indicates, but he plays pretty fast for a big man.

Isn't Cox more of a tweener DE/DT? I'm not arguing his value here, but rather his value to the Jets. Any strong lineman helps, obviously, but more than a stud WR or S?

GJH, I understand some draftees have Cox top 10 but some have Floyd top 10 also!!

I've been on the SAFE Safety wagon for 2 months, but if it falls like this I'm taking Floyd.

Floyd IMO has better chance than any player available in this vote to IMPACT Day 1.

Floyd = immediate impact. Highly probable long term stud WR.
Barron = settles Safety psotion long term. Dependable starter.
Cox = big risk reward. Plus does he impact all that much in first two years? If he doesn't, hello 9-7.

JWilly, Cox is an ideal fit for the Jets at 34DE precisely because he's a DT/DE tweener.

He reminds me of Richard Seymour.

Suprised both that I went with a need pick over value since normally I don't and suprised I was the only vote for Glenn. I can't overstate my hatred for Wayne Hunter and an upgrade there is the best thing for this team. He picks up drive killing penalties (most penalized player last year) at the worst times, adds nothing to the run game and will probably be a much bigger factor to Sanchez not staying in as starting QB then Tebow ever will be. Mark my words he will cost this team at least two to three wins if he is the starting RT, think about it that is the difference between going 13-3 and getting a first round bye and home game and 10-6 and taking our traditional road or three away games. Plus if Ducasse ever does come along he is versitile enough to move inside to guard and give us a ton of size on the right side.

I like Barron quite a bit but I'm just not sure he's really a special free safety, I think he's either a great strong saftey or a decent free saftey, neither of which i can pull the trigger on right now at 16. I'm not a fan of Floydd, just don't think he's that special and we can pick up a decent #2 WR compliment to Holmes later in the draft, espcially if we are trying to get back to the ground adn pound and play defense roots.

Well if he's Richard Seymour then I would say sign me up. And I'm not disputing that he doesn't fit the role for DE in a 3/4. I'm just looking at the fact that what we need more than DL "help" is QB pressure. We need a pass rush. We already have pretty high caliber DL players that fit the scheme, it's just that none of them can get to the QB. We need a pass rusher which could be DE, but more likely OLB. Is this a 3 or 4 sack guy, or is he an 8 or 9 sack guy? Obviously that is drastically oversimplifying the potential impact of adding Cox. Does he add more of what we got, even if he is better than all the current Dlmen, or does he bring the added dimension we are desperatly in need of?

I ask if another very strong lineman, that isn't really going to REGULARLY disrupt the QB will ultimately add more to the whole Jet team than an impact WR or Safety?

And maybe I am totally wrong on Cox's ability specifically to put the QB on the ground. But if we do go DE, I want it to be a DE who specializes in putting the QB on the ground.

Sell me!!! Why should I take more DL when I can solidify a gaping need at saftey for a very long time or I can get very probable and immdediate IMPACT in the offensive passing game.

Although I guess you already did that. You said he's Richard Seymour. I do like the sound of that!!!

Exactly JW, that means I think he can penetrate consistently and put pressure on the QB

That type of DE is rare in the 34, but Seymour was that kind of player and I think Cox can be too.

He would have to be to pass up what I would consider much safer starters. But I will agree that if he is what you think he is, he should be the pick over Floyd or Barron.

We'll see what the Jets board says. If I allow you to sell me on Cox, then I think I can feel really good about our 16th pick because that would now put 3 potential picks on the table that would all make me perfectly happy. And I won;t even be unhappy if they go OL either.

I'm almost ready to guarantee that I will be happy when the Jets make their first selection. RARELY the case!!!!
