Much was made during the offseason, given a string of illnesses by Percy Harvin. But through seven games, the Vikings' top pick has shown one thing more than anything else: he's tough.
He initially injured his left shoulder against the St. Louis Rams, and he took another shot to the same shoulder the following week, against the Baltimore Ravens. In Pittsburgh, Harvin got blasted on a deep pass by Steelers safety Ryan Clark.
"There was a little sting. I knew the safety was there. It's football. You're going to take big hits, but you got to be able to hold onto the ball," Harvin said. "It hurt a little bit - stung a little bit - but I was able to shake it off and finish the game."
Harvin also has taken his licks on kickoff returns, showing no hesitation to run through the crowd instead of heading toward the sidelines.
"You can't be scared to hit the holes," Harvin said. "A lot of people want to go outside, but a lot of times, you got to get downhill, and get what you can get. Sometimes, you pop them, sometimes you're going to take the big hit. But you got to be willing to take it downhill."
Harvin did just that on Sunday, returning a kickoff 88 yards for a key touchdown against the Packers.
For the season, Harvin leads the NFL with an average of 29.8 yards per kickoff and two touchdowns.
