    Carson Wentz: "I Knew I Was Ready"(wk 1 starter)

Lying in the middle of a field in New Jersey hunting geese with his family, Carson Wentz got the phone call that would completely alter his rookie season. One trade and another big decision later, the quarterback sprung up the Eagles’ depth chart and was officially named the starter for Week 1 against the Browns by head coach Doug Pederson.

While virtually no one could have predicted the sequence of events that took place in Philadelphia over the past few days, the result is an opportunity Wentz is going to take charge of, and one he is thrilled to have.

“The whole time, all along, it was just getting ready for whenever this time would come,” Wentz said during his Monday afternoon press conference. “I knew I was ready. I knew I was taking the mental reps being out the last couple weeks. Even going into the first preseason game I felt very confident, felt like I’ve developed at a fast pace. Now it’s here and I’m really confident in myself and confident in this team.”

Wentz’s excitement, though, doesn’t overshadow the fact that this year will be a learning experience for him. There will be ups and downs throughout the course of his rookie season, as well as many lessons learned.

“That’s the way life is,” Wentz said. “That’s the way the game of football is. … Young quarterbacks usually experience some bumps in the road. I’m just going to take them in stride. I’m going to learn from my mistakes and I’m just going to keep getting better and keep putting this team in situations to win some ball games.”

While the rookie is tackling another NFL first, he’s not doing it alone. He’s thankful to have Chase Daniel in the quarterback room, guiding him and giving him advice along the way.

Entering his eighth season in the league, Daniel is a wealth of knowledge and his understanding of Pederson’s offense has helped Wentz along this entire offseason. Now, that relationship will continue. Wentz will still look to Daniel and the veteran will still be there to help in any way he can.

“We just really talked about business. We talked about how we’re going to approach the week, how we’re going to approach it going forward. We didn’t really talk about the details. We’re both on the same page,” Wentz said. “He’s been great, even just today just being a mentor even further now and another set of eyes for me and everything. That’s been really good so far and I’m looking forward to that continuing.”

With less than a week until the season opener, Wentz is more than ready, both mentally and physically.

His only action this preseason came against the Buccaneers, a game in which he suffered a hairline fracture of two ribs, but the injury has healed. When the quarterback steps on the field this Sunday, Eagles fans will be watching a fully healthy Wentz take command of this offense.

Now all that’s left between Wentz and his first NFL start is a week’s worth of preparation. When it comes time to take on Cleveland at 1 PM this Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field, the rookie quarterback will officially ring in a new era of Eagles football.

really , this is the best scenario for everyone involved his learning curve will be accelerated.

Doug Pederson was originally drafted as QB for the Dolphins. He should a let Wentz start the third game, not right away, and given him #13.

Really? NVB was the last QB to win a championship berth? Whew that's a long time bro.

BTW Sam Bradford rode the bench while Shaun Hill started and won Minnie's first game!
