    Bradford traded to vikings !

Vikings trade for Eagles QB Sam Bradford

In a stunning move that thrusts the Vikings right back into the NFC North arms race, Minnesota executed a blockbuster trade for Eagles quarterback and former No. 1 overall pick Sam Bradford on Saturday, the Eagles announced.

The Vikings gave up a first-round pick in 2017 and a fourth-round pick in 2018 -- a massive price to pay for what could amount to one season of work.

The news was first reported by ESPN and, oddly enough, mentioned in a deleted tweet by Broncos defensive coordinator Wade Phillips earlier on Saturday morning.

The deal was reportedly in the works for a few days. After Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater went down with a gruesome dislocated knee injury and torn ACL on Tuesday, the team began a search for an adequate replacement. The Vikings won the division last year with Bridgewater throwing just 14 touchdown passes -- the hope is that Bradford can hold the fort down and manage games in a similar way. He is currently in the first year of a two-year deal worth $36 million, which could give the Vikings an option in 2017 if Bridgewater's recovery timetable lengthens.

Bradford's departure from Philadelphia and arrival in Minneapolis leaves a stunning ripple effect throughout the league. We may be looking at No. 2 overall pick Carson Wentz starting sooner than 2017. The Eagles will likely roll with longtime Andy Reid backup Chase Daniel on opening day against the Browns.

Bradford is once again teaming up with Adrian Peterson, just like he did at the University of Oklahoma. Back then, Bradford was looked at as one of the purest quarterback prospects in football. The Vikings are hoping to recapture some of that magic as they take advantage of their current roster window.

It was hard to imagine Bradford playing elsewhere in 2016 after the Eagles shielded him all offseason. There were plenty of inquiries, including by the defending Super Bowl champion Broncos but Philadelphia was determined to keep Bradford as a buffer for the developing Wentz. Bradford, meanwhile, wanted to get out of Philadelphia.

His wish was granted in a significant way Saturday.

looks like this will be a helter skelter season...hang on !

lol , c'mon gunder , with all the moves Howie 'big balls' Roseman made to get to this position and who knows what other move lay ahead the franchise has made a huge turn around from chipper and are headed in the right direction and moving full speed ahead
the way things are wentz may even start next week if healthy , it's a shame he missed the last 3 pre season games

Sam Bradford no big loss, he was #31st - ranked starter by Point After. I guess wait-n-see on Wentz (and good luck!) or Sanchez. Cousins was ranked #9.

    QB Controversy Anyone?

Don't be surprised to find one brewing in the frozen North. S/B may be familiar with the general offense, but Shaun Hill knows the system already. He'd been originally signed by the Vikings. An UDFA out of the University of Maryland where he led the Terrapins to their A.C.C. title as a senior in 2001. They earned a trip to the Orange Bowl and finished the year ranked #10 in the country. He finished his Maryland career with 3,158 yards and 19 touchdowns, but didn't get any playing time from 2002-6 in Minnie.

His first action came after he joined the 49r's, interestingly, in a game against the Vikings. He was backup to Trent Dilfer and Alex Smith. After Dilfer went 7-19-1 and was concussed in the 13th game, Hill starts the 2nd Half with the score down 0-27 and he completes 22 of 27 for 181 yards and a touchdown, having a rating of 101! Then he won the next two games he started, bring the 49r's standing up to 5-10 for the season. In the next game against the Bengals and Carson Palmer, his rating was over 105. In the following game against TB he suffered a back injury yet played thru it. So he was ruled out for the season finale that they lost to the Browns.

For the next season (2008) the 9r's wisely went with J.T. O'Sullivan as a starter and lost all but two games, going 2-6 before the bye week. I think Hill started the remainder of the season and went 5-3, finishing the season at 7-9. I say "wisely" pejoratively, since Hill's passer rating ended up fifteen points ahead of J.T.'s.

Then he went to Detroit where as you know, Matthew Stafford was established. I hadn't been following Shawn Hill until Detroit played Miami, the season following the trade. They beat the Fins in a come-behind victory of 34-27. The inimitable Chad Henne all but locked up in the 4th Q under pressure from Suh and Williams and he failed to find his check-offs. Miami's Cam Wake also pressured, but Hill scrambled and he found sideline receivers downfield.

What will happen? Will Shaun Hill be the starter before it's too late?
