The Bills saw good fortune in having Marcel Dareus drop to the 3 spot of the first round on Saturday. A very soft defense in 2010 gets quick help for their hybrid 3-4 from the Alabama product.
In the second round The Bills pick up Ryan Mallet, the most pro ready QB in the draft. Character concerns are still an issue, however The Bills believe it's more of a maturing process then character. The Razorback has a cannon arm reminiscent of a former Bill QB from Arkansas, Joe Ferguson.
In the third round they tapped Quan Studivant to shore up their middle "D". The North Carolina inside linebacker shows the speed end to end and a good nose for the football.
They took a big chance in waiting until the 4th round for a tight end but it paid off in Luke Stocker, Tennessee. The #2 TE on most boards gives The Bills that big target around the goal line and shows that he is a force in the run game.
With their 2nd pick of the 4th round they went after another need in RT Joseph Barksdale from LSU. Going into this past college season, Barksdale rated out as a top OT only to have an average season. The Bills believe they can coach this kid up and return him to form.
In the 5th round the Bills took what they considered the BPA. Stanford’s 2 way player, Owen Marecic will serve as their fullback/H back. He is also a standout on special teams. One of the brightest players in the draft, Marecic will also bring leadership to the offense. He may even challenge Ryan Fitzpatrick to a game of chess.
