$36 guaranteed ain't all that crazy though. He's a premier pass russher over the last few years. The guaranteed cash is the only thing that means anything. Haynesworth was $41.

lot of cheese for a guy who had 10.5 sacks last yearI heard a lot of unsavory stuff bout this guy taking plays and games off and such and being a bit of a diva. Great talent but not quite the heart even though he can bring it when he chooses to. Pats fans didn't want him after hearing that.

Sounds like....... alot of NFL players. Pass rushers take plays off whether they are fighting their a$$es off 100% of the time or not, meaning they are taken out of a play by the OL, or the play goes the other way, etc.... At the end of the day, the pass rusher is measured in terms of overall production and ability to make big plays in crunch time. Sure if you dog a play here and there, you don't ACHIEVE the ultimate production you could have, but you still "are what you are" based on that production. Peppers is worth this money as an NFL pass rusher. Not saying I want him, but if he fits your need, this is the right price.

The five-time Pro Bowl defensive end and top free-agent prize agreed Friday to a six-year contract worth potentially $91.5 million in Chicago. Agent Carl Carey said a record $42 million is guaranteed, with Peppers earning $20 million in the first year and $40.5 million over the first three. The deal includes incentives for sacks, making the Pro Bowl and winning NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Bears are nuts. They better hope Pool boy (Gilbert) develops in a hurry because they don't have picks to build around Peppers. Urlacher's an old man, their secondary is a mess, and Tommie Harris spends half the season on the trainer's table. They could've went the low key route signing Aaron Kampman, but the GM wanted a built in excuse. Guess it beats doing nothing. Peppers will command extra attention and when he's on he's unstoppable. Hey, at least they have a QB with no OL and WRs. Championship!

Yeah, now I'm getting there too. But really, the massive money clearly only comes w/ massive production. Pro bowls and serious sack totals. Still a HUGE deal, but also pretty much the top echelon pass rusher in recent history and the biggest FA on the market. Price isn't crazy. But the philosophy of this route is more often a looser.

The guy has taken seasons off. When he is motivated though he is scary good. But if he couldnt stay motivated playing for his home state team will he in Chicago, a team that is in dissaray?

I dont see it.
