he's also a hairclub member... No, he's also a Jet fan. Think about that one a minute, he's not only a paid professional traveling gypsy, he's also a fan. Big, big... big difference... huge! What kind of fan is he? He's the best kind of fan, the kind that probably doesn't even realize it, that kind of fan. Bill Parcells was not a Jet fan and neither was Coslett, Carroll, or Kotite or Groh or Herman, or Mangini for that matter... Not one of those guys grew up as Jet fans, none of those guys spent a good chunk of their formative years running around the Jets locker room with the likes of Jerry Philbin and Joe Namath!

I never heard any of them preaching about having pride in being Jets... in loving your laundry, not one! Parcells was about why not us? and know the man in the mirror type BS, Herm was about, you play to win the game, Mangini... I can't even say what his motto was... Oh, learn from boxing because if you do you will be successful in life and football. Not one of them was about loving the Jets.

You see this guy Rex is a true Jet fan, his favorite team as a kid has hired him, is that what dreams are made of or what? He not only wants to win for himself but he wants to win to fulfill his desires as a fan. The team is picking up on this too, when you play as a true fan of your team, when you love the laundry and are not desperate to change it for another team, you are all of a sudden a very formidable opponent, you are not a paid mercenary then but a Spartan fighting for Sparta.. (!?)

Nevermind the talent on the team and all the other things like his coaching style etc, the fact that he grew up a Jet fan cannot be dismissed too casually just because it's been over 30 years, those formative years leave indelible impressions.

:packy:Spartaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaans!!!

That's right Pack, you nailed it!

Um, Herm blathered on about "Changing the culture" and "Exorcising the ghosts" ad nauseam.

:blah:

The only problem was he had no idea how to do it.

Same deal with mean old Al Groh. His methods amounted to high school motivational stunts and cheesy object lessons. Meanwhile, Mangini tried to instill a sense of community & pride through a strict work ethic and questionable teaching techniques (boxing movies, community building trips, silly childish games, nitpicking fines, etc.). And Fatcells brought his resume, ScumBelly and his legendary SOB 'tude to the table.

But none of them had it all, THE WHOLE PACKAGE, as the DRex does (Even Fatcells needed BellyCreep to run X's & O's). Both respected and BELOVED all at once!

Let's hope it lasts .. I think it will! :)

pretty much since joe willie and weeb we as jets fans have been waiting for the complete package....a coach and a qb we can all be proud of and now we really feel like we have the right 2.... we have a coach who not only seems to be the complete package (i know iknow only 2 games) but he really wants to be a JETS HEAD COACH and really liked us as a kid......and we have aqb in only 2 games has completely shocked me with his game...his poise his arm his feet his excitement his intelligence....it's scary in a good way....

if i am dreaming please just don't wake me up....

Not only that slik, but The Jets were his Dad's team too. Remember that when Buddy heard that Rex had landed the HC job with the team, he told Rex, "Don't you mess this up! That's my team!" There is a family legacy here that we have never had before. I love how this is coming together! The culture IS changing. And it's about time!

They didn't grow up as fans, it was only a job for them, get it?

I think if things go well, which I have no reason to believe they won't, Rex is the kind of guy who could give us 15+ years as our HC. I have been saying all along I have been looking for that 3-4, monster defensive guy who can build us a championship caliber 3-4 defense and then draft into it for a decade. The Pittsburgh Steelers have ALWAYS been the model I wanted us to emulate. I knew Tuna was a quick strike shot. I never really had any confidence that Herm could be that guy. I HOPED Mangini could be that guy. NOT!!!

I have alot more than just hope that Rex IS THAT GUY!
