I still cannot understand all the hate on BSmith, he's going to eventually be a very good wr.

no hate from me....watched him close at camp this guy is a playmaker with the ball in his hands........he was coming on late lasdt year too......i expect him to be the no.3 this year.....also was watching jets nation during the off season and cotchery made it a point to say that b.smith was one of the smartest players he ever played with....and he was ecxpecting big things from him.....

Several want him cut. Dude was learning 4 positions for the past 2 years, nevermind the fact he was never a wr in the first place.

If anyone deserves a few years to develop it's this kid.

Totally agree. However that said I do ned to see a return on the investment this year. How big a return is up for discussion, I say a little bit. Most college WRs take 3 years to develop into good NFL WRs. Brad Mith was not a college WR, so he has a lot to make up on the position. But I need to see that there is potential for greatness there to continue to invest in him. Bad choice of words there, let me clarify...Greatness=Hines Ward Hows that.

I think the 2007 experiment to develop him into a #3 QB ended up hurting him. He wasted a large amount of time taking snaps during the whole offseason when they should have had him just running routes. He ended up looking tentative when he'd release downfield into his routes...and it would continue through to when the passes arrived. He looked comfortable & athletic when he could do what he did in college: get the ball in his hands and create with his feet.

Earlier this year, though, it sounded like he knew what it would take to make him a more successful WR, and he was devoting of his time to just building stamina & flexibility in his legs (as opposed to addding bulk with weights). In terms of the entire package, Brad just might be the most athletic player overall on the Jets' roster. If he can harness that into his WR skills, he could blossom into a #1 WR...he's got so much more quickness & agility than a straight line stiff like Matt Jones.

I soured on him when he displayed alligator arms on more than one occassion last year.

He can be a Ronald Curry type, maybe better but he needs to focus solely on WR.

If he is to become a #3 WR, he has to show us more, this is the year, up to now he looked like a carbon copy of Justin McCarrens out there, time to take it up a couple of notches and show some consistancy.

Right now I think the #3 spot is Chansy Stuckey's to lose. but if Clowney keeps playing the way he has, he will get a lot of playing time as well, he is a better deep threat option than Smith.

Perhaps some of us (including me) went overboard in suggesting he'll be cut, but right now I think he's shooting for the #5 WR spot. Seems to me that Stuckey and Clowney are both ahead of him.

He may not be cut.....yet, but he needs to start showing that he can be a go to guy on a regular basis, or he may not be a Jet next year.

When this conversation started many moons ago I pretty much guaranteed that Smith would make this years team. You know my reasons: only his 3rd year with a position change, cheap, & a special teams contributor.

Right now Brad seems to be looking better as a WR since they have given up on the QB thing & used him as a WR.

I'm sticking with Brad at this point & think he will develop this year as a WR & therefore make next years team also. Why? Improvement as a WR, special teams contributor & cheap.
