Justin Smiley to Miami 5years $25 million (Maiocco)

Kwame Harris to Oakland. NO financial details yet (PFT)

The 49ers have not been passive at the start of free agency, as several fairly significant things are in the works, including a visit from Bengals free-agent DE Justin Smith tomorrow (Friday). He has not agreed to terms with anyone, and he also is reportedly making a trip to meet with the Vikings.

There is word that the 49ers have agreed to terms with QB J.T. O'Sullivan (Lions), LB Dontarrious Thomas (Vikings) and RB DeShaun Foster (recently cut by the Panthers). The deals according to ESPN are: Foster two years, $1.8 million; O'Sullivan one year at the league minimum, plus $40,000 to sign; and Thomas two years. (Maiocco)

Also, it's pretty clear that Maurice Hicks will not be returning to the 49ers after the signing of Foster

Haven't heard much about DE Marques Douglas. If he is not snapped up early in free agency when teams have a lot of money, he could end up back with the 49ers

The 49ers' signing of Thomas should put an end to any discussion about the club pursuing high-priced Bears LB Lance Briggs. Thomas is listed at 6-2, 241 pounds. He would play the position previously occupied by Derek Smith

per John Clayton:

The Vikings and 49ers battled it out to convince Bengals defensive end Justin Smith, but Smith informed the 49ers he will make San Francisco his first stop.

The San Francisco 49ers announced on Friday morning that they have signed free agent kick returner/cornerback Allen Rossum to a one-year, $870,000 contract. Rossum spent the 2007 season as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The 49ers are not in the running to sign OLB Calvin Pace or WR Bernard Berrian (or Briggs), but they are going after WR Isaac Bruce, whom the Rams released on Thursday. Pace and Berrian are probably getting big deals elsewhere. If Bruce's asking price is right, I'd expect him to sign with the 49ers to reunite with Mike Martz.
