Sinkers: Mike Hart: From his 2 fumbles vs. Florida to running a 4.67, his stock has dropped him into the fourth round--or 5th.
Yvenson Bernard: I can run faster than him. 4.83? 5'8"? Can you say, "Hi, welcome to Walmart?"

Risers: Kevin Smith: Pre combine Projected 40 time was 4.5-4.6. He ran a 4.43. Over 215 pounds, 6'1" tall. 2000 yards rushing. Hmmm. Will he be there in the early third?

Matt Forte: After a strong Senior bowl, a good combine. Numbers and size similar to Smith. Late second to early third rounder.

Corey Boyd: Shaved a tenth off his expected 40 time. That threw him into the 5th to fifth range, IMO>

Sleepers:Jalen Parmele Toledo. Know nothing about him, but the numbers are solid.
Boyd.

Panthers: The third round has some value. Forte (maybe) Choice, Smith, Rice, etc.

Since we have D WIlliams, would you wait until the 4th to take Boyd or Hart?

I like having the Choice between Rashard and Jonathan Stewart at 13 with large amount of OT Depth, I also like the big Safety from Az St. running a 4.39 40 at 223 LBS.

Love Josh Barrett SS AZ St. But he's a SS, and Harris isn't that good in coverage. Makes you wonder with that speed if he could cover well enough at FS and keep that weight to make those big hits...intriguing to say the least, he'll really help someone in the NFL.

As far as RBs are concerned, I think the team will almost certainly look for one in the later rounds, 4-6. Boyd, Hart, Forte, Smith are the likely candidates, though not necessarily in that order. I just don't think that Hurney and Fox will look at RB in the first unless they really just don't believe in D-Will at all, which I find hard to believe considering they let Foster go.

Barrett. I didn't know he ran that well (knew he ran well).

I would counter your comment about the tackle depth this way:

1. There is also depth at RB, where there is quality through the third.
2. There is no (starting quality) LT beyond the first, arguably. In the second there are some projected to RT and in the third OT/OG hybrids.
3. Although we need 2 quality RBs, we don't need a starter. You are talking about a player who might take 20 snaps a game (RB) to anOT taking them all (70 or so?).
4. Build the line then get the backs. Good lines make average backs good. Average lines make great backs good.

I would love to have either of the backs you mention, however.

I'm actually really torn about this. On the one had, Mendenhall will almost certainly be available at 13, and he is the bell cow that this offense needs at RB. He's big, strong, fast, and easily the best player available at that position...and he fits the offense right out of the gate. One the other hand, the team has already invested the future in Deangelo Williams, a smaller, faster back who has contributed when given the opportunity. The team's commitment to Williams was re-established with the release of DeShaun Foster.

But why hasn't D-Will had more opportunities? Could he not beat out Foster, and that is why he had to split time? Would Mendenhall be a better fit? If Mendenhall is the selection, what does that mean for Williams? Is he a failure, or will he split time more?

Lots of questions here...not as many answers.

I can easily see us going RB in the 1st (Stewart or Mendenhall). This does not mean that DW is not our starter and that the coaches have confidence in him. I have become a firm believer over the past few years that you need two dynamic backs to be a successful team throughout the year. Most every dominant team has a 1-2 punch at RB. This combined with the depth of OL-men in the draft opens the door for a RB at 13. I dont think there is a S that would warrant consideration that high.

Not knowing what we will do in FA yet, I see 4 positions as possible targets at 13. OL , RB, DT, DE.

IN FOX I TRUST!
