Ok, Utalkin, you got me worrying about worrying. During an existentialistic albeit brief meditative reflection, I came upon an idea. Instead of becoming like everyone else, it might be easier to make everyone like me. The following post was bourne.

What player might the Panthers take in round one that you fear most?

I fear we wouold take Jonathan Stewart. Now that DFoster is gone, I think they may prioritize RB. I think Stewart is decent, but not great. Build the line and the backs get so much better.

This answer used to be Kenny Phillips, but as we dont seem to need OT that early, He is beginning to look better.

Hey bud, Not to be a rain in the parade, we do need an upgrade and J. Stewart would be a great fit, if he can stay healthy. He is a great back, the best in the Draft as far as I am concerned, and I have the oppertunity to watch him every saturday in Autzen Stadium. He is good enough and a good pick at 13, with the Tackle spots wrapped up, I think we could use the pick here. Phillips is not worth a 13th pick, and he is a reach at that position. We will see how it shakes up here, but there is depth at OT in the draft. We might look DE, but we have 2 young guys that I think the front office enjoys. I think we will look at Jonathan Stewart here.

Brian Brohm - IMO, a system QB with a pedigree on a team that has its QBs already

Yeah, I do not want to see a QB taken round 1.

Rain,
you have obviously seen him more than I have. I don't want us to take a RB in the first--or a QB--so that has something to do with it. I simply think he is slightly overrated (Mendenhall is better, IMO) and I want us to develop our line before we draft another first round RB. There is value at RB later inthe draft, and we already have our show pony in WIlliams. So I will stick to my opinion, but I clearly see why you make your points.

I think we are seriously shopping Jenkins and he will be gone soon. I also think there is NOTHING in free agency at DT. Nor is there value at #13. If we don't sign a DE in free agency and don't trade our pick, we might have to go DE. Merling or Harvey or Campbell.

I am afraid that we go after a player who cannot start right away. QB and RB are the likely candidates, but DE is also a trap position here. Derrick Harvey or Calais Campbell are not worth the 13th pick, and there is decent value in this position through the draft (Chris Ellis is a guy who I really like in a later round). OLB is also a trap here; after Keith Rivers, Groves is converting from DE, and Highsmith ran a 5.0 flat at the Combine. Even though Groves is a good player, I don't think he could beat out Diggs.

I would also say I would not want to see FS taken in the first (I know, it's hard to believe for me too). Kenny Phillips is a great player, but I don't know if he is worth passing on other talented positions of need like the OL and DL. This draft is going to be one that brings the Panthers back to fundamentals, and I find it hard to believe that they would "waste" the pick on a FS, despite the fact that Phillips could start from Day 1.

I agree with that. I do not want to see us take a QB in the first (2nd or 3rd) this year. I really dont think we have to worry about it but that would be my biggest letdown.

I'll have to see more film of him I guess, but I like his set up and his mechanics. He seems to have enough arm, but you might be right about the system QB thing. I think we saw that in Carr, where a system guy isn't necessarily going to be able to read defenses. He'll make throws based on two options because he's ignoring one half of the field so he doesn't get confused. Moore can read a defense, go through his progressions and deliver the ball. He was actually pretty good at it for a rookie, which onlyl makes Carr look that much more pitiful because he had five years of experience in the league.

I would guess that Brohm is closer to Moore than Carr as far as that, but maybe not. I'll see if I can't find some film of him online.
