PRO BOWL
DeMeco Ryans

ALTERNATES
Will Demps
Mario Williams
Kris Brown

First off, congratulations to DeMeco Ryans. He's been playing his tail off all season long and deserves it (for those that are unaware, Ryans tore his PCL a few games ago (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/5386034.html) and is still playing). However, I really don't see how Jason Taylor and Kyle Vanden Bosch made it over him. Mario has been great for us (especially lately) at both playing the run and the pass. I know someone will say "he did too much too late", but when you look at the stats, 3 weeks ago KVB and Taylor both had only 6 sacks each, the same number Mario was at. Also, when Haynesworth, possibly one of the most dominant DTs this season, was out with an injury KVB was nowhere to be found. I just don't see how you can have a player who has had such a force be left out of the pro bowl, which is supposed to reflect the best players THIS season. Sorry, just had to go on a rant for a second there . . .

Anyways, Demps came off as a shocker for an alternate. I thought he was have a decent season stepping in at FS on such short notice, but I guess he's really made an impression across the league in the few weeks that he's started. It was also nice to see Brown on the alternates, he's really stepped up overall. Just think, this is the same kicker that 2 years ago people wanted gone. Congrats to the Ryans and alternates, they are all very deserving!

That's the Pro Bowl for ya. Guys either get their due a year later or don't at all due to the market (Jax). Fans just vote for the guys they know. Kerry Rhodes in back to back seasons has been snubbed for Polamalu who has been banged up both years and hasn't done much in either season. The voting system is flawed but hey, that's what happens when you make the fan and player votes so significant.

Preaching to the choir my friend. I've been against fan voting for awhile because fans vote for names instead of performance like you said. Instead of fans noticing guys who are having great seasons THIS year, they say "hey, I know that guy, he was good last year, I'll vote for him!!". All fans aren't idiots, but the good voting majority doesn't put the time in to thinking about who their voting. Granted, there are some situations where 1 guy has to get left out because the are only so many spots available. Like this year at TE, Winslow, Gates, and Gonzalez all have had identical seasons, but only 2 spots are available. However, I still think fan voting needs to have it's percentage decreased or eliminated. And yes, Rhodes got screwed . . .
