I'd have to say Faneca. If he hits the market then Tanny HAS to get him.

As much as I like the idea of Faneca, it's disheartening to me that the one guy that would fill the LG need perfectly and will cost big bucks also got beaten up by our highly criticized DL.

Put it another way if Drob sucks so bad, what does it say about a guy Drob absolutely embarassed in pass protection?

Faneca was always average in pass pro. but i agree i'd be leary of giving him huge bucks.

Yeah, and he schooled Harris in the run game too.

I think he's going to cost too much as well, but he certainly would be a huge upgrade over what we have there now. Check that, a colassal upgrade.

Asante Samuels.

I know many will not want to spend money on another top notch CB but I would do it.

1. He's still young and in his prime (Faneca is not)

2. The Jets are not switching divisions anytime soon, the pasterisks air assault is deadly, another good CB is a must, the Dysons and Barretts of the world don't cut it. Pair Samuels with Revis and the jet have the best CB duo in the NFL. The pass rush gets better instantly, more coverage sacks.

3. It hurts the pasterisks, having Ellis the Hobbit as your #1 CB is not pretty.

Samuel would be nice just to p!ss off the Pats, but they would be laughing last as they reload for less once again.

Did Dewey embarass him or the JP Machado clone Sean Mahan that they have playing at Center?

Here we go agian--first off Drob beat the center Mahan on a swim move and faneca tried to get over from blocking 93 Coleman but couldnt get to Drob in time because Drob beat mahan like a drum. i put Faneca right up there with Steve Hutchinson. Faneca would solidify the left side for years and would bring a ton more talent then the Kendall ever had. OL is dire when it comes to FA. The Jets have to make a solid splash a land a known talent just like Minny did.

I'll go Smiley. About 5 years younger than Faneca so we would get that all important continuity factor for a lot more years.

Problem with Smiley he is another undersized Guard he plays RG not LG and he is just coming off shoulder injury.

I agree the Jets are going to have to get 2 #1 CBs and a pass rush if they want to have any hope at competing against that offense. Ill also keep my eye on Asomugha (whatever his name is) from the Raiders. Good player, but I think he is restricted?

Last time I checked Smiley got benched in SF, best case he is now splitting time with David Baas.

Smiley was not benched, although he did have a down year. David Baas took over for Smiley, but only after Smiley sustained a season-ending shoulder injury.

Problem with Smiley he is another undersized Guard he plays RG not LG and he is just coming off shoulder injury.

Smiley has played both left guard and right guard with the 49ers. He was the right guard this year and last year. Prior to Larry Allen's arrival, Smiley started sixteen games at left guard in 2005. He also had nine starts as a rookie. Smiley's playing weight at the beginning of this season was ~327. He's currently around 295 because of his injury and inability to lift.

The most recent report on Smiley's (post-surgery) status was:

Justin Smiley underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder a month ago and he said he is doing fine. He should be healthy enough to begin lifting weights by the first of March, though he said he isn't supposed to play football for another couple months after that.

my 'must have' is Stacey Andrews. can play either LG or RT, young and powerful.

would be my first choice too. He's younger than Faneca and plays at a very high level. He's versatile and can play G or T, and he's smart too. He still has maybe 10 yrs left in his career as well. Faneca is a very good player, but he is getting older. I wouldn't mind getting him or Andrews but Andrews would be my first choice.

Wasnt David Baas rotating in with Smiley before he got hurt though? I remember reading that..
