MERRIMAN CLAIMS FISHER ORDERED A "HIT"

Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman contends that Titans coach Jeff Fisher ordered Tennessee players to target the San Diego defender in retaliation for Merriman's "accidental" flattening of Titans quarterback Vince Young.

"Plenty of people told me it was a coach down there telling them to go get at me," Merriman said.

Merriman will miss Sunday's game against the Lions with a knee injury.

If true, it's a bombshell, given that Fisher is a member of the NFL's Competition Committee. If it's false, Merriman needs to apologize profusely.

Either way, the NFL needs to investigate this one. If a black official calling a black player "boy" merited a thorough analysis and review, the notion that an NFL coach targeted a player for injury requires a reunion of the Warren Commission.

Frickin Roidman ended Priest Holmes career, and now he's whining about this?

He sounds like Rodney Harrison.

as far as I'm concerned. He drove VY into the turf three seconds after he had already handed the ball off. VY was just running out the play-fake. It was very clear that the ball was long gone and VY was looking after the play so he never even saw Merriman coming, but Merriman could clearly see that the ball was gone to the RB as he was coming from the back-side of the play. So what does he do? Why he does what every good sport does! He completely flattens VY with a cheap, blind-side hit. Was it legal? Yes. Was it necessary or even appropriate under the circumstances? No. The very next play Tennesee runs a a sweep to Merriman's side and the TE, who was split wide comes in on a wham block and just smashes Merriman from the bind side. Then a few series later both Mawae and the RT smother Merriman and his kneee gets hurt.
It looked to me like the play meant to send a message to Merriman was the TE cracking back, not what happened later. That looked like any other play and he just got buried by the O-line.
He is an idiot for complaining about this and it just reinforces the opinion that he can dish it out, but can't take it.

Its also easier to cry about it especially now that hes lost so much size and power from getting caught using roids last season. someone had posted pictures of the size difference awhile ago it was classic shrinkage. both hits were solid the Jets need to do that to some patriots this week.

The team did it, but not with bad intentions.

They pasted Merriman's head onto the torso of another player because Merriman wasn't available for a shoot for a team picture or something like that.

I hear ya' SinCity. Wasn't it Drew-Jones who pancaked Merriman earlier this year?

Priceless.
