When Mike Tannenbaum sifts through the damage after the season, trying to figure out ways to improve the Jets, he should consider Bill Parcells as an addition to the front office. Call him a consultant, a special scout, whatever, but the organization could use a person with his experience.
It might be hard to pry Parcells away from his lucrative TV gig. If he declines, they should hire someone of his ilk. They need someone who knows the league to objectively assess the Jets' personnel, which they obviously overrated heading into the season.
Under Tannenbaum, the Jets' performance in free agency has been mediocre. Consider their biggest signings the last two offseasons: DE Kimo von Oelhoffen (bust), CB Andre Dyson (disappointing), DE Kenyon Coleman (just okay) and LB David Bowens (underwhelming). They have picked up some useful role players, but no difference-makers.
Tannenbaum's two college drafts have produced five starters and two valuable backups, perhaps because the scouting department is rich with experience. The pro personnel side? Not so much.
This offseason, Tannenbaum faces a quarterback decision and may look to swing a couple of big trades (see Chad Pennington and Jonathan Vilma). It would help to have another voice in the process.

I'm not sure that the name Chad Pennington belongs in the same sentence as the phrase "big trade". I can't imagine the market is particularly strong for a rag arm QB with an injury history.

Not every starter plays all 16 games like Favre, Manning, and Brady. If you can give up a 5th or so for an intelligent, accurate passer to compete for a job or to be your backup I don't see why it'd be too terrible. When Steve McNair got dealt last year it was considered a "big trade." Just because it's not something that'll garner a high pick doesn't mean it's not a big trade when it involves a recognizable name.

This same Tuna rumor was circulated in Miami a month ago. He's a living urban legend alright and he gave all the Fins fans fits while coaching up two divisional rivals. Now you have Mangenie and are just in the sophomore jynx. But if he decides to coach back in college (where was he, LSU?) then you'd have to give Cameron Cameron another shot, since he has two first names. But I'd forget Parcells -- he must have been somehow dissatisfied with the Jets org to leave the first time, right?

I understand what you're saying, I just can't believe there is much interest. We also need to start qualifying any statements praising "Manning", because little brother has a QB rating lower than Griese, Culpepper, Losman, and Harrington. Can you say, OUCH!

lol, tough to feel sorry for the guy with the way he came in. Thought he was above the league, karma is a bitch.

I refer to him as Eli "Okay, I might be adopted" Manning.

A COWBOYS fan in the JETS forum in a thread about The Jets FRONT OFFICE and Bill PARCELLS and somehow you end up Eli bashing? You guys are 11-1, on top of the world, coming off a great victory against Green bay. Every little bounce and call is going your way. So why not try to show just a little class and do something different then being the same old front running, obnoxious Cowboys fan that we usually see around here, eh? ;) You can do it, I have faith in you!
heh heh heh

So tell me tmage, do you think that Eli and Archie's actions might have brought a little of this on them? I think someone said something about karma regarding Eli in another post. Funny but I didn't notice you name-calling in that post. I must have missed that. I initially joined this thread to question the trade value of Chad Pennington. I don't believe his value around the league to be significant and said so. And yes, I pointed out that the "other" Manning is not having the career that Peyton is having. If you plan on being in charge of all the threads that might take a dig or two at guys around the league, then that post total of yours will be going up quite a bit now won't it?

don't worry I'm here! Who better than a level-headed, respectable Eagles fan to break up an argument between a midget and cowgirl fan? :guns2:
here it is:
Eli Sucks
hey who has a higher QB rating Eli or Feeley?

You know maybe tmage is right. Upon further examination, I was wrong about Eli and now believe him to be the most balanced QB in the league. The proof is right there in the stats, 17 TDs and 17 INTs.

And you're STILL using a jets thread about their management to argue how much a Giants' QB sucks... You seem almost obsessed, Big A... at least to the point of continually stressing a point that nobody has denied, that I can see. What's the point and what does it have to do with the Jets?

LOL thanks for adding a little humor to this. I think Big A's a little tense and needs a good laugh ;) He seems a bit testy, although why he should be so tense is a mystery. His team is winning bigtime and he has a wonderful wideout in T.O. to represent his team every day on espn. You'd think he'd be overjoyed.

those cowgirl's fans are a bit tense from being beat up after their Aikman and Irvin left. They are back on top of the NFC East and haven't yet figured out how to act.....

Actually, I'm quite content. I didn't think I came off as testy, but hey, your milage may vary.
