More Monday fun

Well, let's catch up, after a productive hour-plus in the locker room.
QB Jake Delhomme said surgery on his right elbow is a possiblity, but called it a "last-resort type of deal."
MLB Dan Morgan came in wearing a cast on his right foot, saying he had a partially torn Achilles tendon. The cast comes off later this week and he's hopeful of playing again soon.
And then DT Kris Jenkins arrived, saying he didn't back off from any of Sunday's statements, and suggesting he might have asked to be traded as a result of the "issues" that bothered him to the point of speaking out.
But he's also apparently made peace with several teammates, saying he's had "several conversations" throughout the day, after saying the team had no heart the day before.
Stay tuned, the day ain't over yet.

I've been thinking about Jenkins, he's shown some great heart, if he is overweight he's more than making up for it.
I can't help but think if this year is 8-8 or less Fox is gone, simple as that. The NFL is no longer known for patience.

With proven guys like Cowher and Schottenheimer out there, it's not like they couldn't replace Fox and come out ahead. Jenkins putting the situation out there also adds some legitimacy to that possibility. If Fox has lost the team, then he's got one foot out the door anyway.
I was glad to at least see Jarrett suited up. He caught his one ball. Granted, maybe they can't run all the plays with him in the lineup, but I'd rather have a guy who knows 30% of the plays and will catch the ball 80% of the time in there than two guys who know all the plays and only catch the ball half the time.

Good point Cali--these two have been here long enough that the word potential is no longer valid. Jarrett and Robinson are better than Carter and Colbert.
Fox is as good as gone, and so might be all of his assistants. If we were to get Cowher, this place would go crazy. As upsetting as this may sound after Sunday, I hope we keep Davidson. When we have a better chance of getting a first down running the ball on third and seven than passing, dont blame the OC for calling a run.
I am seriously questioning our eye for talent.

I thought about Robinson after the game. For four weeks now he's been struggling as a returner, and they pulled him off KR duty altogether. He needs to be out there more to get his confidence I think. But if they're hell bent on Goings returning kicks, then get 10 out there in some 4 WR sets. He showed in preseason that he's a decent receiver, and maybe getting him a few touches on offense will help his confidence with his returns. If he drops it, we're no worse off than if Colbert or Carter were running the route.
With Jarrett, maybe he did have it easy at USC. Maybe he only had so many routes he had to know, then dammit incorporate those into what we're doing. The guy caught 41 TDs in three years, he obviously can play. Find a way to get him involved. Put him in position to be successful, that's supposed to be the whole point behind Davidson's offense. Line him up on the same side as Smith and have them run pick routes, drag him across the middle where he can be a big target and wall off the defender. Do something.

"Do something."
Amen! It's apparent it wasn't just Hennings...it seems the whole organization top to bottom isn't willing to "do something" from week to week.
The season is 1/4 over already and we look like a preseason squad...unimaginative, not agjusting at halftime...
Fox by most accounts was on the hot seat coming in...
and it's warming up every lackluster week.

Wow, just noticed you guys only have 2 sacks on the season. No wonder there's dissent in the ranks.
This whole Jenkins stuff is interesting. Here is the guy who was on the trading block, who was criticized for not taking part in the Panthers preseason conditioning yet he is one of the few on D stepping up at this point. Makes me wonder if we have too much of family atmosphere, us against them mentality in the locker room. Seems like the "them" is the media and fans rather than the other team. Maybe we have too many "Jon Fox guys" on the team who aren't willing to speak up. Jenkins figures he has nothing to lose. Hell they tried to trade him last year. What can they do to him now? I have rarely been this pissed after a game. It looked like the defense wasn't trying last week and thats unacceptable.

We are not very good on defense right now and that has the fan base shaken up. I go to the games and spent much of last Sunday watching Peppers on D. He was getting handled one on one and half the time looked like he wasn't trying.

Hate to say, but Im suddenly liking our chances in a couple weeks here in Phoenix. The Cards are playing with a ton of emotion and effort right now, and a lackluster defense and Carr at QB doesn't bode well for you guys. A lot can happen between now and then of course, and the Cards are a young team that has yet to establish it can bring its A game on a week to week basis. Still, its not looking as tough of a game as it seemed when the schedules came out.
Only bad thing for you guys are we play much better on the road right now. Carr will be fine. He really hasn't had enough time to work with Steve yet. Second string qbs develop timing with second string recievers. It takes reps with the first string. I am much more worried about the D right now.

I agree something needs done! Still our D seems to have no emotion. I was very happy to see the goal line stand and thought that it might be a turning point for our D, but it was not. I do not understand why we can not get any pressure on a QB. I was shocked that during the very 1st drive our D-line was sucking air. Do we not do any conditioning? Is Peppers ill? They need to figure out what is wrong with him. In the past (even last year) you would never be able to block him the whole game with 1 person...now it seems like no problem? I think it was the 1st TD (the one Garcia ran in) It looked like Peppers fogot how to tackle or just gave up. He was right in position to lay Garcia out, but instead of trying to rap him up and punish him, Peppers drops his head, keeps his arms at his side and tries to shoulder block Garcia down...result..Peppers gets nothing but air and Garcia strolls into the end zone. SOMETHING NEEDS DONE!
Given our O didnt do our D any favors by making them spend so much time (early in the game) on the field, but With the Talent (or should I say supposed talent) we have, we should still put up a better showing than that.

That could have been a turning point, but when the O is shut out to that point and does nothing but a 3 and out AGAIN, it's hard for the D to make a goal line stand a turning point.
As bad as the D has been the O is almost as pathetic.
Frankly giving up 20 points isn't insurmountable. But only scoring 7 and with that score coming with what? 30 seconds left...99 times out of 100 IS insurmountable.

Granted we've gone that route before. Personally, I don't want to get into any of that until we know this is done for, and at 2-2, we've been much worse, but things will have to change.

It's still hard to figure out who to sit, though. None of them have been good enough to be option 2, just option 3. So do you keep a vet from dressing?

my concern is the possibility that Jenkins is doing all this for himself only.
Now, I was in his court when he said he'd come to camp on time. I didn't want him to go. I still don't. But to a point, there's still that lingering concern, whether he knows that a trade would be a new contract.

I think he is doing it for himself. I wouldn't be surprised if his agent told him to. Its damage control for a guy who was so lazy and overweight that his team wanted to trade him. Now he is a "team leader" in the press corps. This certainly doesn't hurt his value. That doesn't mean he doesn't speak the truth. Problem is the defensive captains aren't speaking up. This at least forces them to address it in the locker room. I just wonder if he gets punished by Fox for speaking to the media like that.
