Browns Ready To Extend Cribbs
The Plain Dealer reports Browns WR/KR Josh Cribbs and his agent said Friday that new president Mike Holmgren has given the Browns the green light to extend Cribbs' contract.
"Holmgren already gave the word to the coach and to the organization here,'' said Cribbs. "I'm sure he's going to start out on the right foot and take care of me. He knows football and he takes care of players and builds programs.'' Cribbs' wish was to have his deal re-done by the final game of the season, but he's eased up on that. "I'm trying to get it done as soon as possible,'' he said. "It's going to get it done. I'd prefer it be done before the end of the season, by tomorrow. But I've waited this long and it's for a reason. Just think what it would've been if I had gotten it before everything I did this season. Everything works out for a reason.''
Cribbs, en route to his second Pro Bowl this season, scored three touchdowns on kickoff returns to become the NFL's all-time leader with eight. He also rushed for 334 yards out of the Wildcat. "We're sitting real nice right now,'' he said. "I feel like it's looking up for me because of the success we're having as a special teams unit and an offense and the playing time I'm having.'' Holmgren will take over as president on Monday.

Part III. This is the Part Where Mangini and Kokinis Lower the Bar and Blame the Past
The interesting thing about Mangini is that whenever he really wanted to get some kind of information out there, he was usually able to find a way. In a story he or someone inside the organization essentially tipped to the Plain Dealer, Mangini let it be known that he felt the franchise was being handicapped by the former regime because of roster bonuses due several players, including Joe Jurevicius, Kevn Shaffer, Derek Anderson, Stallworth, Joe Thomas, Corey Williams, Shaun Rogers and Jamal Lewis.

There are probably a million or more ways to look at the Cleveland Browns' 2009 season and probably even more conclusions that could be drawn. But one thing that is undeniable. It's been a long, strange trip indeed.
I promised to write a book about the season, and that might come in time. But I thought the best thing to do first was to try and make some sense of what we all just experienced. I wanted to follow the journey, really, that new club president Mike Holmgren had to take to get himself up to speed before deciding whether or not to keep head coach Eric Mangini.

Josh Cribbs is getting all the attention in his contract situation because his agents have run to the top of the highest mountain to shout their displeasure, but the fact is the Browns have higher priorities at the bargaining table.
One of them is Jerome Harrison.
